At Pyramid Healthcare, we are dedicated to providing evidence-based opioid addiction treatment through our methadone program in North Carolina. As part of our opioid treatment program (OTP), we offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combined with counseling, education and support services to help individuals achieve lasting recovery.

Opioid addiction is a complex disease that affects not only physical health but also mental well-being, relationships and overall quality of life. Our methadone treatment program is designed to help individuals stabilize, regain control and build a sustainable recovery plan.

How Does Methadone Treatment Work?

Methadone is a Schedule II synthetic opioid that has been used for decades to help people recover from opioid use disorder (OUD). It works by:

  • Reducing cravings for opioids

  • Preventing withdrawal symptoms that can lead to relapse

  • Blocking the euphoric effects of opioids, discouraging further use

  • Providing long-lasting relief, requiring only a single daily dose

Unlike short-acting opioids such as heroin or prescription painkillers, methadone has a slow-release effect, which allows individuals to function normally, focus on their recovery, and rebuild their lives without the highs and lows of addiction.

At Pyramid Healthcare, we believe that medication alone is not enough—successful recovery requires a comprehensive approach that includes counseling, therapy and strong support systems.

Comprehensive Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) Services

Our methadone treatment program is just one component of our opioid treatment program (OTP). We offer a range of services to support individuals in every stage of recovery:

  • Comprehensive assessments to create a personalized treatment plan

  • Group therapy to provide peer support and community connection

  • Individual counseling to address emotional and psychological aspects of addiction

  • Medication management to ensure safe and effective use of methadone

  • Educational sessions to teach coping skills, relapse prevention and recovery strategies

  • Family programming to help loved ones understand addiction and provide support

  • Case management to connect clients with resources for long-term success

Each treatment plan is customized to meet the needs of the individual, ensuring they receive targeted care that supports their unique recovery journey.

The Importance of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Many people struggling with opioid addiction fear withdrawal symptoms, which often become a barrier to seeking help. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) or naltrexone (Vivitrol) has been proven to:

  • Reduce opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • Lower the risk of relapse and overdose
  • Improve social and occupational functioning
  • Increase treatment retention rates

MAT is a scientifically backed approach that helps individuals focus on long-term recovery while stabilizing their physical and mental health.

In addition to methadone, Pyramid Healthcare also offers:

  • Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) for opioid withdrawal management
  • Subutex (buprenorphine) for individuals who may not tolerate naloxone
  • Vivitrol (naltrexone), a non-opioid option that blocks the effects of opioids

Our experienced medical and clinical team carefully evaluates each client’s medical history, addiction severity and treatment goals to determine the best medication option for their recovery.
