Adults in outpatient programming at Pyramid Healthcare engage in individual counseling, group therapy sessions and life skills workshops. Additional services include:

  • Drug and alcohol assessments
  • Level of care assessments
  • Outpatient groups specializing in pain management
  • Family therapy

  • Anger management
  • First-time offenders program
  • Medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone and Vivitrol

Service offerings vary at each location. Some of our outpatient treatment facilities offer partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. These are more highly structured forms of outpatient treatment. In these programs, clients attend programming three to five days per week and return home in the evenings.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are 20 or more hours per week and are designed for complex substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders that do not require 24-hour care. These may also be referred to as day programs as they are usually up to 6 hours per day.

Partial hospitalization is not residential treatment. Similar to IOP and other levels of care, PHP can be a step up or step down depending on a client’s individual treatment needs.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) occur in non-residential settings. However, IOP consists of fewer treatment hours per week than partial hospitalization.

IOP may be ideal for clients who have complex symptoms or co-occurring disorders but don’t need residential treatment. Alternatively, IOP can be a step down level of care for clients who have completed residential rehab.

Outpatient (OP)

The outpatient level of care takes place in a non-residential setting, so clients can live at home while participating in treatment. Outpatient treatment is fewer than 9 hours per week for adults and fewer than 6 hours per week for adolescents.

This level of care may be for someone with less severe symptoms of a substance use disorder. It may also be a lower level of care for someone who has completed residential treatment.

Is Outpatient Treatment a Good Fit for You?

Many people choose outpatient treatment because it offers more flexibility than residential programs. Clients in our outpatient treatment programs continue to live at home, allowing them to uphold work, family and academic commitments.

It’s also ideal for clients who have already completed a higher level of care, but still want support and accountability.

Those in outpatient rehab may not reside in a guaranteed sober environment, and may be forced to confront and cope with triggers present in their everyday lives during recovery. However, outpatient treatment often provides an easier transition period for clients, as they have already been exposed to the challenges of maintaining recovery outside of a structured, sober environment.

If you have a serious addiction or have not yet tried treatment, residential treatment may be recommended. Additionally, some people may prefer the 24-hour support and supervision an inpatient level of care provides. Our admissions specialists can help you evaluate both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.
